The Mutua Madrid Open draw has been released ahead of the tournament, which begins Tuesday and will be shown live on Sky Sports. Several notable names have withdrawn, including Emma Raducanu, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, but Britain’s Jack Draper remains in the field despite retiring mid-match with an injury in Barcelona. Draper has been awarded a first-round bye.
Fellow Brit Cameron Norrie also receives a first-round bye after reaching the Barcelona quarter-finals last week, following a second-round appearance in Monte Carlo.
Katie Boulter opens her Madrid campaign against American Taylor Townsend in round one. If she advances, Boulter could face fifth seed Jessica Pegula in the second round. Boulter arrives on decent form after a quarter-final run in Rouen last week, and holds a 3-0 head-to-head advantage over Townsend, although their last meeting was in Beijing in 2024. Townsend, meanwhile, reached the ATX Open final in February and has produced strong results this season.
Should Boulter progress, a clash with Pegula looms: Pegula recently captured her second WTA title of the season in Charleston.
With Alcaraz and Djokovic absent, Jannik Sinner is the top seed and also benefits from a first-round bye.
