The draws have been set for the Mutua Madrid Open, which starts Tuesday live on Sky Sports.
Emma Raducanu, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have withdrawn, but Britain’s Jack Draper is in the draw despite pulling out of the Barcelona Open mid-match with an injury. Draper receives a first-round bye.
Countryman Cameron Norrie also gets a first-round bye after reaching the Barcelona quarter-finals last week following a second-round outing at Monte Carlo.
Katie Boulter opens her campaign against American Taylor Townsend in the first round, with a potential second-round meeting against fifth seed Jessica Pegula.
Boulter reached the quarter-finals in Rouen last week and will be looking to build on that form. She has beaten Townsend in all three of their previous meetings, though they have not met since Beijing in 2024. Townsend reached the ATX Open final in February and has shown good form this season.
A Boulter win would set up a match with Pegula, who recently captured her second WTA title of the season in Charleston.
With Alcaraz and Djokovic absent, Jannik Sinner is the top seed and also receives a bye in the first round.
