Luke Littler extended his sensational 2025 by defeating Nathan Aspinall 11-8 to lift the Players Championship Finals trophy in Minehead. The 18-year-old world No.1 added a sixth major ranking title of the year and claimed his first Players Championship Finals win.
Littler has now won eight of the 10 PDC majors this season, leaving only the European Championship and the World Masters to complete what would be a historic clean sweep.
On his route to the final Littler produced a commanding 10-5 quarter-final victory over Chris Dobey, averaging close to 108 and landing nine maximums. He followed that with an 11-8 semi-final win over Gerwyn Price; Price had reached the last four after beating Daryl Gurney 10-6.
Aspinall reached the final after a strong semi-final showing, beating Jermaine Wattimena 11-2 — a victory that featured a 10-dart leg. He had earlier edged Josh Rock 10-8 in the quarters, recovering from an early deficit to progress.
In the final Littler raced into a 5-2 advantage before Aspinall mounted a fightback, including a memorable 127 checkout, and reduced the gap to 9-8. Littler steadied himself and closed out the match with an 88 finish to seal the 11-8 triumph.
Littler reflected on the win saying he was proud to add the title and that he feels he is expressing more emotion on stage as his career develops. He also pointed to the remaining majors as targets, with his focus turning to the World Championship. Aspinall praised Littler’s season, welcomed his return to the top 16, and paid tribute to Littler’s impact on the sport while saying he was pleased to have shared the big-stage showdown.
Elsewhere in Minehead, Gian van Veen successfully defended his World Youth Championship crown, defeating Beau Greaves 6-3.
