Chelsea extended their Women’s Super League record unbeaten run to 34 matches but dropped points as bottom-placed Liverpool held them to a 1-1 draw. The Blues have not lost in the league since a May 2024 defeat to Liverpool when Emma Hayes was in charge, and the draw leaves Chelsea three points behind leaders Manchester City.
Alyssa Thompson opened the scoring in the ninth minute, cutting in from the left and curling a shot into the top-right corner. Liverpool responded and, in the 33rd minute, Lily Woodham set up Beata Olsson; Olsson outpaced captain Millie Bright, drove forward from near the halfway line and slotted home to level the match.
Bright marked her 211th WSL appearance, becoming the competition’s record appearance holder. Despite the draw, Liverpool — bottom of the table — secured a valuable point against the title contenders.
In the second half Liverpool boss Sonia Bompastor turned to more attacking options, bringing on Aggie Beever-Jones and Lauren James, with James making her first WSL appearance since March. Beever-Jones thought she had put Liverpool ahead after rounding the goalkeeper Faye Kirby, but the goal was ruled out for offside; she later curled an effort just wide.
Chelsea pushed for a winner but could not break Liverpool down, and the game finished 1-1, preserving Chelsea’s unbeaten run while allowing Manchester City to remain ahead at the top.
