Jake Paul’s return to the ring is in doubt as he continues recovering from the stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua last December. Paul, who turned professional in 2020 and had largely fought at cruiserweight, moved up in weight to face Joshua — a former two-time unified heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist — and was knocked out in the sixth round. The loss left him with a jaw broken in two places; he underwent surgery to receive two titanium plates and had teeth removed.
He has not been cleared to spar and has yet to resume competitive training. Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Paul said he is due to get new scans of his jaw and that those results will determine both a timeline and whether he can fight again. ‘I think I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility,’ he said. He added that the jaw feels better with time but stressed he needs medical clearance to spar; in the meantime he’s kept fit with mitt work and gym sessions.
Paul acknowledged the uncertainty around his career: ‘Most definitely,’ he said when asked if his boxing future is in doubt. He noted concerns about how the bone will heal and the likelihood of needing a dental implant, both of which could extend recovery. For now, his next steps depend on doctors’ assessments and cautious medical advice as he decides what is safest for his long-term health and career.
