It’s finally here, the auction time. All the 10 franchises will have their eyes set and plans in place for the auction and they are ready to lock horns with each other on a massive day that is ahead of us.
Sam Curran created history in the ongoing Indian Premier League mini auctions which is underway in Kochi. He surpassed the likes of Chris Morris to become the most expensive player in IPL history.
Sunrisers Hyderabad as a franchise has definitely some liking for Jammu & Kashmir players, they have now picked up uncapped all-rounder Vivrant Sharma for INR 2.6 crores. He will now join the likes of Umran in the SRH camp.
Ben Stokes, the English Test skipper has been picked up by Chennai Super Kings. He had been a part of Rajasthan Royals previously, but he will now join MS Dhoni and his troops.
Aussie batter Cameron Green goes to Mumbai Indians for INR 17.25 crore. he threatened Sam Curran’s amount for a bit, but he fell short.

Since the 2014 season, the player contracts are denominated in the Indian rupee, before which the contracts were in U.S. dollars.
The mega auction is back. The 10 franchises, with crores of rupees in their pockets, are ready to go all guns blazing to secure the services of the best T20 cricketers during the two-day auction starting today.
Sam Curran became the most expensive player in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) as he was bought by Punjab Kings for a whooping amount of ₹18.5 crore in the mini-auction held in Kochi on Friday.
Curran saw an intense bidding war between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, before Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings joined.
Curran overtook Chris Morris in the process, who till date was the most expensive player having been purchased by Rajasthan Royals for ₹16.25 crore in the IPL 2021 mini-auction.
He entered the auction as a hot property, with Universe Boss predicting franchises to break 16-17 crore barrier and so was the case.
Soon after Curran’s record-breaking price, social media was flooded with reactions. Former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Subramaniam Badrinath too had a funny take to the mind-boggling money. He tweeted: “Record broken, Raining currencies in Sam Curran’s garden..deservedly so..”

He was one of the key players in England’s World Cup-winning squad in Australia, and was awarded as the Player of the Tournament. He was also named the Player of the Match in the final where England beat Pakistan.
Curran didn’t participate in the IPL mega auction in February 2022, as he was still recovering from a back injury.

It is a familiar sight for the IPL viewers to look at the team owners, managers, coaches, and at times, analysts sitting at the assigned tables during the multi-day IPL auction going live on television.
Each franchise in the IPL gets a purse of INR 80 Crore to assemble the team of domestic and international Indian players and foreign players (capped, uncapped, or the players from associate nations).
An IPL franchise doesn’t need to use the complete kitty in the purse, however, as per the recent rules, they are mandated to spend 75% of the purse which amounts to INR 60 Crore.
Franchises can of course go as much close to INR 80 Crore as wished. Currently, CSK has spent INR 79.85 Crore on the player salaries and have just 15 Lakhs left in the purse.
The franchises build their strategy around the players they want and the money they have. It has often proved vital that the franchises keep some money in the purse to be utilized at the right moment.
