Falkirk and Motherwell played out a goalless draw at the Falkirk Stadium, a result that kept both clubs inside the top six but offered little in the way of excitement.
Motherwell had the clearest opening early in the second half when Tawanda Maswanhise was played in behind the defence. He rounded his chance with a smart touch but his close-range effort was comfortably saved by Scott Bain. That save stood out in a match where Motherwell largely controlled possession but struggled to create meaningful openings.
The draw leaves Motherwell third and stretching their unbeaten league run to seven matches. Newly promoted Falkirk remain sixth, having now gone five games without defeat.
Falkirk began brightly. Alfredo Agyeman cut in and flashed a low shot just wide from the edge of the box, and soon after Callum Slattery saw a strike from distance blocked. In the 27th minute a clever free-kick found Agyeman again, but his attempt was deflected into the side-netting. Later in the half Motherwell full-back Emmanuel Longelo drifted inside and his effort clipped the near post.
After the restart Maswanhise’s chance arrived from a long over-the-top ball that exposed Falkirk defender Liam Henderson. Bain was called into action again soon after to keep out a deflected attempt from Tom Sparrow that flicked toward goal via Filip Lissah.
Falkirk threatened from set pieces too: Brad Spencer’s 40-yard looping free-kick nearly caught out Motherwell keeper Calum Ward, drifting just wide. Substitute Ethan Williams forced a smart near-post save with a powerful half-volley in the 75th minute, and Lissah nearly supplied a late moment with an acrobatic attempt that flew straight at Ward.
Falkirk made attacking changes and finished the stronger side but could not fashion a clear, match-winning chance. The game ended 0-0 and both teams look ahead to their upcoming fixture lists with momentum intact.
