Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson guided his side to a long-awaited County Championship victory over Surrey in Cardiff, sealing a seven-wicket win that was the Welsh county’s first red-ball success against Surrey at home since 1983. The result handed Surrey only their second defeat of the season.
Surrey added 49 to their overnight total thanks to an unbeaten 66 from Tom Lawes, setting Glamorgan a target of 195. Glamorgan lost Billy Root to a run-out after just four balls, but Carlson steadyed the innings with a well-timed 67. Colin Ingram and Sean Dickson then combined to finish the job and take the hosts home.
At Taunton, Somerset’s clash with Warwickshire ended as a draw. Captain Craig Overton carried on to a third century of the season as Somerset resumed on 219 with four second-innings wickets in hand. Overton and Thomas Rew extended a seventh-wicket partnership to 233, taking Somerset to 435 and a lead of 313. Warwickshire began their reply poorly with early losses to Zen Malik and Dan Mousley, and were 98 for two when rain forced abandoned play shortly before 5pm.
In Division Two, Durham turned a likely draw into a decisive six-wicket victory over promotion rivals Northamptonshire at Chester-le-Street. Northamptonshire reached a total that set Durham 296 to win, but Durham chased it down confidently with an unbeaten 109 from Daniel Bedingham and an unbroken 65 from Colin Ackermann.
Worcestershire also produced a late turnaround to beat Gloucestershire by five wickets. Fateh Singh recorded career-best figures of 5 for 74 as Gloucestershire were bowled out to leave Worcestershire just 87 to chase. Despite early jitters—including a third-ball duck for Daniel Lategan and four wickets for Graeme van Buuren—Worcestershire reached the target with five wickets down.
Kent defeated Middlesex by 49 runs at Canterbury. Matt Milnes starred with a five-for (5 for 31) in Middlesex’s second innings, as the visitors were bowled out for 181 while chasing 231.
