Beau Greaves produced two commanding performances to win back-to-back PDC Women’s Series events in Wigan.
At Robin Park Leisure Centre, Greaves crushed Sweden’s Vicky Pruim 5-0 in the final of Women’s Series Event 13, averaging 88.41. Her run to that final included victories over Jade Gofford (5-3) and Fallon Sherrock (5-2) in the earlier knockout rounds.
She followed that up by taking the Event 14 title, beating Poland’s Karolina Ratajska 5-1 in the final to claim her 57th PDC Women’s Series crown. Greaves averaged 82.05 in that match and remains top of the Women’s Series rankings.
Her form throughout the weekend was impressive — in one semi-final she recorded a tournament-high average of 100.20 in a 5-? win over Dutch player Aileen de Graaf, after overcoming Aoife McCormack 5-3 in the previous round.
Reflecting on her victories, Greaves said: “I know we [Ratajska] had a tough game but I’m really happy to win that there.” She also admitted how much she enjoys competing on the women’s circuit: “I simply get more enjoyment out of the ladies’ game. Obviously I know I win a lot, that’s not the point. To see some of the girls and stuff is nice but I’m playing a lot and really enjoying it.”
On managing expectations and staying fresh, she added: “Some of the girls have said to me: ‘Are you not tired?’ No, I’m fresh, and sometimes I’ve had some poor games but I’ve done enough to win and that’s the main thing.”
Greaves is clear about her longer-term ambition. Asked about breaking into the PDC Order of Merit top 64 — a spot that would change her eligibility for the Women’s Series — she said: “That’s what I’m aiming for, that spot… I want to be a professional darts player, plough on and play well. That’s the main goal, just enjoy my darts and end up in that top 64.” She has also said becoming the first woman to win a PDC ranking title left her feeling “absolutely chuffed.”
