The Philadelphia Eagles were jeered by their own fans as the Super Bowl champions fell 24-15 to the Chicago Bears in the Black Friday game at Lincoln Financial Field. Home supporters began leaving with about six minutes remaining after Caleb Williams connected with Cole Kmet on a 28-yard touchdown that put Chicago up 24-9.
Chicago controlled the game from the start, outgaining Philadelphia 425 yards to 317, running 85 plays to the hosts’ 51 and winning the first-down battle 28 to 14. The Bears ran for 281 yards to the Eagles’ 87 and dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 39:18 to 20:42.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and the Eagles’ sputtering attack came under fresh criticism after failing to turn a Bears turnover into points and then losing a fumble during a pivotal second-half tussle-play. Philadelphia briefly threatened in the third quarter when AJ Brown hauled in a 33-yard touchdown after a Jalen Hurts scramble, but kicker Jake Elliott missed the extra point and the Eagles trailed 10-9.
Momentum swung in Chicago’s favor when Williams was intercepted by Jaylx Hunt on a screen attempt. Soon after, Nahshon Wright stripped Hurts on a tussle play and recovered the fumble — Wright’s fifth straight game with a takeaway. The Bears chewed up the clock on a 12-play, 87-yard drive finished by Kyle Monongai’s four-yard touchdown, capped after a fourth-and-five conversion by Colston Loveland, to make it 17-9.
Ben Johnson relied on a powerful ground attack, with Monongai carrying 22 times for 130 yards and a touchdown and D’Andre Swift adding 18 carries for 125 yards and an earlier score. Chicago sealed the win late in the fourth when Williams found Kmet for a 28-yard score. The Eagles added a late Hurts-to-Brown four-yard touchdown but failed a two-point try, leaving the gap at nine.
Key scoring plays included Swift’s three-yard touchdown to open the game, Jake Elliott’s 44-yard field goal and Cairo Santos’ 30-yard field goal for Chicago. Through the first half the Bears led in nearly every category — 222 yards to 83, 16 first downs to two, 142 rushing yards to 26 and 21 minutes of possession to nine.
The victory was Chicago’s ninth in 10 games, moving them to 9-3 and atop the NFC North. The Eagles dropped to 8-4 after their second straight loss, coming off a game in which they blew a 21-point lead.
