Mirra Andreeva reached her second WTA Tour final of the year with a straight-sets victory over Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the Linz Open semi-final, winning 6-4, 6-1. The world number ten broke in Ruse’s opening game but dropped serve twice soon after. Trailing 4-4, Andreeva broke again to take the first set 6-4 and then dominated the second, breaking in the fourth and sixth games to close out the match 6-4, 6-1 after one hour and 27 minutes.
Anastasia Potapova also advanced to the final, beating Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-2 in the other semi-final. Potapova raced to a 4-1 lead early; Vekic pushed back and threatened to level, but Potapova held to secure the opening set. She took control in the second, racing to a 4-0 lead and sealing the win, recording her first victory over Vekic in their recent meetings.
The Linz final will be the fourth meeting between Andreeva and Potapova. Eighteen-year-old Andreeva has won their last two encounters. The pair have not yet met on clay, meaning another surface will decide the title in Linz.
