Leeds Rhinos ran in eight tries to overwhelm Catalans Dragons 46-4 at Headingley, strengthening their position at the top of the Betfred Super League. The win was Leeds’ seventh in nine matches and left them two points clear at the summit.
Ash Handley opened the scoring after just two minutes and Leeds never looked back. Maika Sivo and Ryan Hall added further tries to give the hosts a 16-0 half-time lead. The second half saw a brutal 16-minute spell in which Danny Levi, Cooper Jenkins, Brodie Croft and Ryan Hall crossed, effectively ending the contest as a contest. Leo Darrelatour scored a late consolation for Catalans, but James McDonnell grabbed a final score to complete a dominant display from Leeds. Catalans, who have shown inconsistent form this season, remain mired in mid-table after a disappointing outing.
At Wheldon Road, Hull FC began Andy Last’s second stint as interim head coach with a nine-try demolition of Castleford Tigers, winning 50-10. Jake Arthur, Tom Briscoe, Davy Litten and Connor Bailey helped Hull establish a 20-6 half-time advantage. The rout continued after the break with further tries from Lewis Martin, Litten again, Zak Hardaker, Bailey, Cade Cust and Yusuf Aydin.
Zak Hardaker was his usual reliable self with six successful conversions and a penalty. Krystian Mapapalangi scored both of Castleford’s tries in the heavy defeat, coming a week after their surprise victory over Wigan Warriors. Last previously held the interim role in 2020, picking up eight wins from 14 games; he will be aiming to push Hull up the table ahead of Steve McNamara’s arrival in 2027.
