The Sky Sports Cup final between Glasgow City and Rangers arrives at Fir Park on Sunday 29 March, with coverage from 2:30pm and kick-off at 3:00pm on Sky Sports. After a competition that began on 7 September and 18 rounds of action, two of Scotland’s biggest women’s sides meet for the trophy. Glasgow City go into the showpiece top of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League, unbeaten in 20 of their 21 league matches this season; Rangers are three-time Cup holders and sit five points behind City in the title race.
How it began
The first round involved eight SPWPL2 clubs. Livingston beat East Fife 4-0 and St Johnstone defeated the University of Stirling 5-2. Two ties required extra time or penalties: Gartcairn progressed with a late extra-time winner against Boroughmuir Thistle, and Kilmarnock edged Dundee United on penalties after an 8-7 shootout.
Second round fireworks
The top-flight teams entered in round two and the tie list produced 52 goals across eight matches. Rangers dismantled SPWPL2 St Johnstone 12-0, Partick Thistle scored seven against Livingston, Hibernian won 9-0 at Motherwell and Hearts beat Montrose 7-0. Aberdeen and Celtic both won 3-1 (over Kilmarnock and Spartans respectively). Glasgow City moved on with a 5-0 victory away at Hamilton, while Queen’s Park beat Gartcairn 3-1.
Quarter-finals
Queen’s Park were the sole remaining SPWPL2 side in the last eight but were knocked out as Celtic triumphed 9-1. Hibernian edged Hearts 3-2 in the Edinburgh derby. Glasgow City beat Aberdeen 2-0 to reach the semis, and Rangers overcame Partick Thistle 3-0 at Broadwood in what echoed last season’s final matchup.
Semi-final drama
At Meadowbank, Glasgow City met Hibernian. Nicole Kozlova broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time and Chloe Warrington added a fine strike before the hour to make it 2-0. Hibs reduced the deficit with Kirsten Reilly’s free-kick but City held on to seal their place in the final.
Rangers’ semi at home against Celtic produced late twists. Maria McAneny gave Celtic the lead, Katie Wilkinson levelled from the penalty spot, and Celtic then went back ahead through Emma Lawton before Poppy Pritchard’s penalty made it 3-1. Laura Berry struck late at the end of each half to drag Rangers back to 3-3. In extra time, goalkeeper Jenna Fife saved Saoirse Noonan’s spot-kick and then added two further saves in the shootout to send Rangers into a fourth successive Sky Sports Cup final.
What’s at stake
Rangers have the chance to equal the competition record with a fourth consecutive triumph. Glasgow City, beaten only once domestically this season (that defeat coming to Rangers), are chasing a record-equalling seventh Sky Sports Cup title.
Their league meetings this season have been tight. In September Nicole Kozlova scored a late winner for City; in January Calliste Brookshire levelled on her first start for Rangers; and most recently Rangers won 1-0 via a Katie Wilkinson penalty. There have already been plenty of standout moments in the 2025/26 Sky Sports Cup — and the final at Fir Park looks set to add more.
