Celtic needed extra time to reach the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, edging Dundee 2-1 at a half-empty Celtic Park as St Mirren, Dunfermline and Partick Thistle also progressed.
Deadline-day signing Junior Adamu scored on his debut with the final kick of normal time to level the match, and substitute Sebastian Tounekti fired the winner inside the second minute of extra time.
The Celtic Fans Collective had urged a boycott of the game in protest at the club’s board, creating an unusually flat atmosphere that was reflected in the team’s sluggish display until Adamu’s late equaliser. The small number of supporters who remained rallied behind the side as Martin O’Neill’s team held on for the win.
Last season’s runners-up will learn their quarter-final opponents after the conclusion of Stenhousemuir v Falkirk on Sunday (19:30 GMT).
Elsewhere, Dunfermline Athletic beat Kelty Hearts 2-0 in the Fife derby, and Partick Thistle edged fourth-tier Elgin City 3-2. St Mirren defeated Airdrieonians 2-1 on Friday to join the last eight.
On Sunday Rangers host Queen’s Park at Ibrox, with local rivals Stenhousemuir and Falkirk meeting at Ochilview Park. Dundee United v Spartans and Aberdeen v Motherwell were postponed because of heavy rain and have been rearranged for Tuesday 17 February and Wednesday 18 February respectively.
