Camulus and Rosscahill look the key players in the 2026 renewal of the North Wales National, live on Sky Sports Racing this afternoon.
1.55 Bangor – Camulus and Rosscahill among North Wales National field
There’s a typically open feel to the Xenon Workplace North Wales National Handicap Chase, with 13 due to go to post at Bangor-on-Dee.
Venetia Williams’ stable hasn’t been at its best lately, but Camulus appears well placed to land this marathon prize and complete a hat-trick. He won readily at Leicester and Taunton around this time last year and returns after 353 days off, stepping up in trip.
Rosscahill has long been highly regarded and showed plenty of promise over hurdles before being pulled up on his chasing debut at Ffos Las in October. Sent off 5-4f that day, he has questions to answer on his comeback for the Twiston-Davies yard.
Each-way hopes include JP McManus’s Ayr runner-up Wal Buck’s, Gold Emery and Icaque de L’Isle.
4.22 Wolverhampton – Enemy, Roaring Legend & Prydwen clash
The Midnite: Built For 2026 Not 2006 Handicap brings together popular stayers Enemy, Roaring Legend and Prydwen.
Enemy proved he still has plenty to offer when dropping back to 12 furlongs to win a Class 3 handicap at Southwell on New Year’s Day and must be respected despite a 4lb rise.
Roaring Legend makes his debut for Olly Murphy with Sean Levey booked, arriving with solid form from last season, including a fine third in the Mallard at Doncaster. He should be competitive if he handles the switch to all-weather.
George Scott’s Prydwen cannot be ruled out but needs to bounce back from a lesser effort in December.
7.00 Newcastle – The Caltonian & Apache Outlaw headline
A strong-looking SBK: No Casino Just Sports Handicap at Newcastle is headed by The Caltonian and Apache Outlaw.
The Caltonian scored over six furlongs here last month, beating Pocklington by three-quarters of a length. With the runner-up proving progressive, he’s an obvious player and Paul Mulrennan takes the ride.
Adrian Keatley’s Apache Outlaw, a four-time all-weather winner, ran well to finish third at Dundalk and first-time cheekpieces could provoke further improvement.
Elegant Erin completes the shortlist after finishing last season with an excellent fourth in Listed company at Ascot.
Best of the rest
At Bangor, Chris Gordon’s promising chaser Fortune Dancer seeks a fourth consecutive win in the opening Alfa Aggregates Products Mares’ Handicap Chase (1.25pm), and looks well placed to do so carrying bottom weight.
An hour later the Bangor-On-Dee EBF “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle looks wide open following the withdrawal of Dan Skelton’s Giantsgrave. Ben Pauling’s Four Springs has had a wind operation and could return in style under Ben Jones.
At 3.17pm, Wolverhampton’s Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Handicap provides the stage for Royal Jet and Poke The Bear to attempt hat-trick bids.
