Wolves have completed a Deadline Day double signing, bringing striker Adam Armstrong and midfielder Angel Gomes to Molineux.
Armstrong joins from Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year deal in a move understood to be worth £7m plus £2m in potential add-ons. The 28-year-old, who has scored 11 Championship goals this season, said he was “honoured” to join, praised the hard-working nature of the squad and promised supporters “100 per cent” every time he wears the shirt.
Manager Rob Edwards described Armstrong as “a competitor” with goals in his game and versatility to play off the sides or as a central striker. Edwards added that the club only wanted signings who would have a positive impact on and off the pitch.
Gomes arrives on loan from Marseille until the end of the season, with an option to buy. The England youth international came through Manchester United’s academy, moved to Lille in 2020 and signed for Marseille on a free transfer last summer, but has made limited appearances — just eight minutes of Ligue 1 action since December. Edwards said he has a long-standing relationship with Gomes from their time at the FA, calling him a “brilliant, technical player” with a great footballing brain who will add quality in midfield.
The deals follow the departure of Jorgen Strand Larsen, who completed a club-record move to Crystal Palace earlier on Deadline Day. Palace paid a fixed fee of £43m plus up to £5m in add-ons for the striker. Strand Larsen, who scored 14 Premier League goals last season, leaves Wolves after 18 months and has managed one goal this term.
