Kevin Sinfield has completed his annual 7 in 7 challenge, running seven ultramarathons of at least 28 miles in seven days for the sixth consecutive year. The 2025 effort raised £1.15m for motor neurone disease (MND) charities, and Sinfield and his team have now raised more than £11m for MND causes across their campaigns.
Sinfield confirmed his 2026 “7 in 7” will conclude at the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday 3 October. He plans to start that challenge in Hull and route it through the rugby league heartlands, aiming to call at all 12 Super League clubs based in England as he undertakes the seventh annual challenge.
The 2025 run began at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club on Monday and finished at AMT Headingley on Sunday, with Sinfield and his team running ultra-marathons in seven different regions. He was accompanied during the week by a number of sporting stars, including Jessica Ennis-Hill, Jonny Brownlee and Josh Warrington.
The 7 in 7 campaign was inspired by Sinfield’s former Leeds Rhinos team-mate Rob Burrow, who died in 2024 after living with MND for four and a half years. Sinfield said the number seven is significant because it was Burrow’s shirt number and recalled how Burrow “lit up Old Trafford” in that shirt. He added that finishing at Old Trafford in 2026 will bring the rugby league community together to celebrate Rob and support the MND community.
Sinfield also said the team wants every member of that community to know they are loved and cared for, “especially at the darkest of times.” To ensure the 2026 finale at Old Trafford, the team will start their next challenge earlier than usual, in September rather than December.
