Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly keen on reuniting with Jose Mourinho, but Sky Sports News understands no formal approach has been made to the Portuguese manager.
Perez is leading the search for a new Bernabeu coach, with Alvaro Arbeloa—who replaced Xabi Alonso in January—expected to be succeeded at the end of the season. Perez remains close to Mourinho and is thought to favour a reunion; Mourinho famously won LaLiga with Real Madrid 14 years ago, amassing a record 100 points.
Despite the interest, there has been no official contact with Mourinho, who is currently Benfica’s head coach and is not in a rush to decide his future. Benfica sit seven points behind leaders Porto and are three matches away from completing an invincible league season. Three wins would also secure second place ahead of local rivals Sporting and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Mourinho is aware of speculation linking him to Real Madrid and other top clubs, as well as the Portugal national team role, but is focused on Benfica’s immediate objectives. His contract at Benfica runs until the summer of 2027 and includes a break clause that either party can trigger at the end of this season.
