Wessel Nijman extended his remarkable 2026 run by winning his fourth Players Championship and fifth ranking title overall at Players Championship 12 in Milton Keynes.
Nijman, who also lifted the European Darts Trophy in March, defeated fellow Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena 8-5 in the all-Dutch final. The victory follows Nijman’s triumphs at PC2, PC8 and PC10 earlier this year.
Beau Greaves, who made history by winning PC11 on Monday to become the first woman to claim a PDC ranking title, was eliminated in the last 16. Tom Bissell whitewashed Greaves 6-0, then beat Max Hopp 6-3 in the quarter-finals before falling to Nijman 7-4 in the semi-finals.
Wattimena started the final strongly, building a 4-2 lead through some effective combination finishing as he chased a first ranking title since October. Nijman then won six of the next seven legs to close out an impressive 8-5 victory.
“It was kind of a nervy final. I went behind after missing some doubles,” Nijman said, after breaking into the world top 16 for the first time. “I’m so happy I kept it together. There were some finishes I hit with the last dart, the 57 [to go 6-5 up] was important. When it clicks together and you play those finals, and you’ve been playing those games all day long, the next time you come, you remember that.”
