Luke Littler’s remarkable 2025 continued as the 18-year-old world No 1 beat Nathan Aspinall 11-8 to win the Players Championship Finals in Minehead.
The victory is Littler’s sixth major ranking title of the year and his first Players Championship Finals crown. He has now claimed eight of the 10 PDC majors, with only the European Championship and World Masters remaining to complete a historic full sweep.
Littler reached the final with an 11-8 semi-final win over Gerwyn Price, having earlier beaten Chris Dobey 10-5 in the quarter-finals. Against Dobey he produced a match average close to 108 and hit nine maximums. Price had reached the last four after a 10-6 win over Daryl Gurney.
Aspinall booked his final spot with a dominant 11-2 victory over Jermaine Wattimena, having edged past Josh Rock 10-8 in the quarters after racing into a 5-1 lead. His win over Wattimena included a 10-dart leg.
In the final Littler stormed into a 5-2 lead, but Aspinall fought back — including a 127 checkout — to narrow the gap and trail 9-8. Littler held his composure and sealed the title with an 88 checkout to finish 11-8.
Littler said: “It wasn’t easy to reach this final, but I’m proud to tick this one off the list. Now there are only two more [the European Championship and World Masters] to go. I know I played brilliantly throughout the tournament and I’m glad I got the job done. Early on in my career I was just being myself, but now I’m starting to let out a bit more emotion and it’s paying off. I’m very proud to lift this trophy, and now it’s all eyes on the big one at the World Championship.”
Aspinall said: “This has been a fantastic tournament. I’m back in the top 16 where I belong, and that was a big target coming into the weekend. I always get amazing support here in Minehead, but I’ve got to congratulate Luke. The guy is incredible. He’s a good mate of mine as everyone knows. What he’s done for this game is incredible, and I was happy to share the stage with him tonight.”
Also at Minehead, Gian van Veen defended his World Youth Championship title with a 6-3 win over Beau Greaves.
