U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley won 11 skins — nine of them on two holes — to take the Skins Game and $2.1 million in the event’s return after 17 years.
Bradley sank a 7-foot putt on the 13th hole at Panther National to claim $900,000 after money from the previous three holes had carried over. His first big payday came on the opening hole, which was worth five skins after the first four holes produced no winner.
Tommy Fleetwood won the final hole, worth three skins with carryovers, and picked up $1,125,000, finishing second with $1.7 million. Shane Lowry, who replaced the injured Justin Thomas, won one skin and earned $200,000. Xander Schauffele was shut out.
That $1,125,000 payoff was the largest in Skins Game history, notable because the total purse was only $1 million when the event was last held in 2008.
Skins Game rules:
– The player with the most money at the end wins.
– A hole is won by the player with the fewest strokes on that hole.
– The winner of a hole is awarded the hole’s value plus any carryover money and skins.
– If two or more players tie on a hole, the skin and its value carry over to the next hole.
Skins Game hole values:
– Holes 1–5: $100,000 each
– Holes 6–9: $200,000 each
– Hole 14: $400,000
– Hole 15: $500,000
– Hole 16: $600,000
There were a few format tweaks: the event was played over 16 holes on Friday morning rather than 18 holes across two days over Thanksgiving weekend. Each player started with $1 million and had money deducted when another player won skins.
