Italy were crowned Davis Cup champions for a third successive year after beating Spain in the final in Bologna. Both sides reached the showdown without their top stars, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but Italy sealed the title when Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli won their Sunday singles matches.
Berrettini defeated Pablo Carreño Busta 6-3 6-4 in the opening match, serving 13 aces and finishing in one hour and 18 minutes. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist claimed the only break in the eighth game of the first set and again found a decisive break late in the second to close out victory.
In the second rubber, Cobolli overcame Jaume Munar 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 in an entertaining contest. Munar dominated the first set with two breaks and took an early lead in the second, but Cobolli immediately broke back and prevailed in the tie-break. He then secured the crucial break in the 11th game of the decider and served out the match to love, clinching the title for Italy.
