Hyo-Joo Kim held off world No. 2 Nelly Korda to claim her eighth LPGA Tour victory, winning the Fortinet Founders Cup in California by a single stroke.
Kim, 30, arrived at the final round with a five-shot advantage but saw that cushion disappear after 10 holes when Korda rattled off six birdies following an early bogey at the second. Korda’s charge stalled thereafter: she settled into six pars and two bogeys the rest of the way, including a costly three-putt at 17 that ultimately proved decisive.
Despite bogeying two of her final three holes, Kim finished wire-to-wire at 16 under to secure the title. After a closing 63 at Sharon Heights that featured two back-nine birdies, Kim said, “I enjoyed every single day, but this course was pretty tough.” Her victory is her first since winning the Ford Championship a year ago — that event is next on the 2026 schedule and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf.
Korda had been hunting a second LPGA win in as many starts after skipping the Asian Swing following her triumph at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Florida. Reflecting on the late slip, she said, “Obviously, something like 17 stings, so it is what it is. It’s golf. It’s a quick turnaround. There is next week so I’m just going to take all the positives.” Earlier on Sunday, Korda’s brother Sebastian produced a shock result in tennis, upsetting world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the Miami Open’s last 32.
Green on a roll as major season nears
Attention now turns to the season’s first women’s major, The Chevron Championship in Texas from April 23, where Japan’s Mao Saigo defends the title. Hannah Green enters the major stretch in sharp form: the Australian won three times in March, including the LPGA’s HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore and back-to-back victories at the Women’s Australian Open and the Australian WPGA Championship.
Green completed a four-shot triumph in Queensland on Sunday and reflected on her run: “It feels amazing. Again, it hasn’t really sunk in, but it’s been a crazy month. It’s been really special to be able to do that in Australia.” Her lone major victory remains the 2019 Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine; she missed the cut at three of the five majors in 2025.
