Gian van Veen has withdrawn from Night Seven of the Premier League in Dublin after being diagnosed with kidney stones.
The Dutch No 1 had been due to face Michael van Gerwen in Thursday night’s quarter-final; van Gerwen now receives a bye through to the semi-finals. Van Gerwen is awarded two league points and a +1 leg difference, while van Veen forfeits a -6 leg difference and receives no points.
Van Veen sits fourth in the table after six nights, having finished runner-up three times, but has been ruled out while he remains in hospital.
Jonny Clayton arrives in Dublin eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table and is seeking a third consecutive night win after success in Glasgow and Nottingham. Van Veen is one of three players on nine points alongside Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries, with van Gerwen on eight.
The 23-year-old is a two-time world youth champion and is in the middle of his debut Premier League season after reaching the final of the World Darts Championship, where he was beaten by Luke Littler. He announced himself last year by beating Humphries in the European Championship final to claim his first ranked title.
