The F1 ACADEMY title remains undecided as the season heads to a Las Vegas finale, with Mercedes’ Doriane Pin and Ferrari’s Maya Weug separated by just nine points. With one round left, their duel — and the battle that has unfolded since Shanghai — will decide the 2025 champion.
ROUND 1 – SHANGHAI
Weug carried momentum from the end of 2024 into the new season, taking pole in Shanghai by a comfortable margin over Pin. In reverse-grid Race 1 both drivers made progress, but only Weug reached the podium in P3. Alisha Palmowski led home a Campos Racing 1-2 after Nina Gademan retired late with a technical issue. In Race 2, Pin was the braver starter on the rolling restart and passed Weug early. She held on despite a late Safety Car and left China with a five-point edge over Weug.
ROUND 2 – JEDDAH
Qualifying flipped the order: Chambers claimed pole, Pin was second and Weug third. Race 1 produced a dramatic finish — Ella Lloyd beat Weug in a drag to the line, while Weug had worked through the pack to overtake Palmowski for P2. Chambers received a five-second penalty for forcing Weug off track and dropped to third, handing Weug the win and a seven-point lead in the standings.
ROUND 3 – MIAMI
A downpour turned Qualifying into a one-lap sprint from the pit lane and Chambers took pole, with Palmowski and Pin close behind; Weug was stuck in traffic and qualified P10. Pin converted her Race 1 charge into victory, getting past polesitter Emma Felbermayr to lead home Palmowski and Chambers. Weug finished fourth. Race 2 was postponed due to weather, leaving Weug just one point clear at the top.
ROUND 4 – MONTREAL
The series’ debut in Canada was pivotal. Chambers sealed pole, but Weug suffered an electrical issue and started the weekend badly from P15. In Race 1, contact between Chambers and Palmowski opened the door for Pin to take the win while Weug retired early. Felbermayr’s disqualification later promoted Gademan to the podium. Race 2 saw Felbermayr claim a last-lap victory in a three-way fight; Lloyd second and Gademan third. In Race 3 Chambers led from lights-to-flag to win and moved up to second in the standings. Pin survived an early incident and scored solid points, taking the championship lead by 20 points over Chambers, with Weug third and 37 points adrift.
ROUND 5 – ZANDVOORT
On home soil Weug needed near perfection and she delivered in qualifying, edging Palmowski for pole. Gademan produced an emotional maiden win in Race 1 after being cleared to race following a fitness scare, with Lia Block taking her first F1 ACADEMY podium in P2 and Weug chasing in third. Pin endured a scrappy race and finished sixth. Race 2 saw Chambers retire on the formation lap with a technical problem. Weug dominated the remaining race with a 7.3s winning margin — one of the biggest in series history — while Palmowski and Pin completed the podium after Lloyd was penalised for a false start. Pin kept a 20-point championship lead going into the penultimate round, though Weug had reclaimed second from Chambers.
ROUND 6 – SINGAPORE
Qualifying was tense as Pin crossed the line late but fell 0.042s short of Weug, who took pole. In reverse-grid Race 1 Lia Block converted pole into her long-awaited first win, while Weug produced an impressive climb from eighth to second and Pin could only manage P5. In Race 2 Pin got the jump off the line and looked set for victory, but rain threatened with six laps remaining. Teams gambled on staying out on slicks; Pin controlled the restart but Weug, with nothing to lose, executed a bold final-lap move to snatch the win. Lloyd’s podium moved her up the standings while Chambers, who pitted from fourth, fell out of title contention after finishing 11th.
As it stands, Pin and Weug are tied on three wins each and separated by nine points heading to Las Vegas. Both will need near-flawless drives under immense pressure if they are to claim the crown and become the third F1 ACADEMY Champion.
