Bromley’s promotion to League One was delayed after Cambridge United held them to a goalless draw at Hayes Lane.
Cambridge should have taken an early lead inside 15 minutes. Ben Knight, clean through, poked wide of Grant Smith’s goal, and Dominic Ball then screwed a shot inches wide from Liam Bennett’s cutback.
Bromley fashioned their first chance after 25 minutes when Omar Sownunmi’s header looped over the bar with goalkeeper Jack Walton beaten.
On the half hour Shayne Lavery sent a header against the bar from Adam Mayor’s cross.
The second half started slowly but Knight’s fierce angled drive forced a sharp save from Grant Smith. That prompted a rally from the hosts: Ben Thompson’s close-range effort was saved by Walton and Jude Arthurs’ follow-up was deflected over.
With about 10 minutes remaining Smith did brilliantly to tip Kelland Watts’ header over, and despite a late goalmouth scramble neither side could find a winner.
Bromley boss Andy Woodman remained upbeat after promotion celebrations were put on hold following the 0-0 draw.
