Alycia Baumgardner retained her unified junior lightweight titles via unanimous decision over Bo Mi Re Shin, then called out Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano while dismissing Caroline Dubois.
The American, the clear favourite, came out confidently from the bell. Shin pushed back strongly in rounds six and seven, but couldn’t consistently land enough to turn the fight. Baumgardner won on the cards 98-92, 98-92, 99-91, improving her record to 18-1 while her five-year knockout drought continued.
“Listen, three minutes, 10 rounds, on my period, baby stop playing with me,” Baumgardner said after the fight. “I’m feeling comfortable, it’s an adjustment every time, three minutes is a long time so I’m still learning and growing. I don’t know everything and I’m okay with that. You just go back and keep getting better.”
Afterward she made clear who she’d like next. “Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, what’s up,” she said, while scoffing at calls from Briton Caroline Dubois: “I’m a piranha, that’s [Caroline Dubois] a guppy, get her out of here.”
Talks about Taylor’s farewell fight are underway, with the Irishwoman hoping for a Croke Park send-off, so a matchup could happen soon if both sides agree.
Elsewhere on the card, the night’s biggest upset saw Lani Daniels stop Shadasia Green in the ninth round. Green had landed heavy punches through the first eight rounds and appeared to be moving toward victory, but faded late. Daniels opened the ninth with a flurry that forced referee Eric Dalo to stop the contest at 0:32, awarding Daniels a TKO. Daniels became the new IBF, WBO and Ring super middleweight champion and a three-division world champion.
Green was stretchered from the ring and taken to hospital for testing after appearing to struggle to stand; Daniels expressed concern for her opponent and thanked supporters in a post-fight interview.
