Yordan Ruben Álvarez is a Cuban professional baseball designated hitter and left fielder for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB).

| Born: June 27, 1997
Las Tunas, Cuba
He made his MLB debut in 2019 for the Astros. Nicknamed “Air Yordan”, Álvarez stands 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m), weighs 225 pounds (102 kg), bats left-hand and throws right-handed.
Prior to his American career, Álvarez played two seasons in the Cuban National Series for Las Tunas. He defected from Cuba in 2016 to establish residency in Haiti, where he first signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an international free agent.
You don’t necessarily need fancy numbers to know that Yordan Alvarez had an incredibly valuable game in Houston’s stunning Game 1 win, because it doesn’t exactly require a lot of science to say that “going 3-for-5 with a walk-off home run to help your club come back from a 7-3 deficit” is a very good thing to do.
“I think it’s one of the most special moments that I’ve had in my career, having [my parents] there, and even for just the city of Houston,” Alvarez said, and we could hardly disagree.
But what if we told you that we had those fancy numbers, and they say this was the most valuable postseason game – and moment – a position player has ever had?
And what if we told you, furthermore, that those numbers don’t even capture the entirety of what Alvarez just did?
It wasn’t just a memorable game, or a dominant one. It was a historic one.

For most of Game 1 on Tuesday, the Seattle Mariners looked poised for an upset in their ALDS matchup with the top-seeded Houston Astros.
Yordan Alvarez had other ideas. With his Astros facing a 7-5 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Houston slugger launched an 0-1 pitch from Robbie Ray into the right-field stands for a 3-run walk-off home run to secure an 8-7 win.
Mariners manager Scott Servais pulled closer Pat Sewald with two outs in favor of Ray in an apparent effort to set up a lefty on lefty matchup with Alvarez.
Sewald had allowed two runners on base in the inning, hitting David Hensley with a pitch, then allowing a Jeremy Peña single up the middle to put runners on first and second.
Alvarez fouled off Ray’s first pitch, a 94 mph fastball over the plate. Ray’s 93 mph offering on his second pitch never stood a chance.
Alvarez led the Astros with 37 home runs during the regular season and sent the Minute Maid Park crowd into a frenzy with one of his biggest blasts of the season that traveled 438 feet.
Astros manager Dusty Baker, who’s managed 25 major league seasons and played 19 MLB seasons before that, called the home run one of the best moments he’s ever seen in the game.
Yordan Alvarez is currently married to the sweet and gorgeous Monica Quiros (now Alvarez). Monica and Yordan have overcome a long journey together before finally tying the knot.
On January 11, 2020, Monica noted on her Instagram page about their engagement, as noted on whoceleb.com.
Though dates cannot be confirmed, it is reported that they have been together since 2018, as their first picture was found during that time. They welcomed their two children Mia and Jordan shortly after and before their marriage.
They welcomed their lovely daughter before their marriage on November 6, 2018. The duo named her Mia.
Their engagement took place at the beautiful Excellence Oyster Bay, where they shared pictures of them exchanging rings while being half embedded in the sand.
