Tyler Lockett broke a bone in his index finger during the Seattle Seahawks’ Thursday night loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Before Lockett went down with the injury, he was Geno Smith’s favorite offensive target and the Seahawks’ number-one receiver.

Seattle’s playoff hopes are looking slightly less promising, with the Kansas State University alum getting hurt and also as a result of the defeat.

The injury sustained by Lockett was unfortunate, but isn’t major. The Seahawks’ front office is hinting at a Week 17 return for him.

“Tyler Lockett broke a bone in his hand — in his index finger,” Carroll said. “It’s legit and all that. We gotta figure out what’s the right way to go. I can’t even fathom that. I can’t fathom playing without Tyler.”

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Lockett suffered a spiral crack in his first metacarpal, an injury that will force him out for at least two games and indeed threatens the rest of his season, per a source.

Carroll later explained it was a spiral crack in Lockett’s first metacarpal which he likely sustained when he went to make a low catch on an incompletion during the Seahawks’ final drive of the game with just 3:47 left.

Not long after the game’s conclusion, nothing had been decided, per Carroll, as to the upcoming treatment. The veteran head coach explained that there were a “couple different ways” that they could perform surgery and one could give Lockett a chance to return this season.

However, Lockett had yet to decide on which means of surgery or if he was going to have surgery at all. Lockett did tell Carroll he expected to be back in two weeks.

The Seattle Seahawks are set to be without their star wide receiver for the rest of the season as Tyler Lockett has reportedly broken his finder and is likely to undergo surgery.

It would be a huge blow for the Seahawks, who remain in a good spot to make the playoffs, in a battle for the last two places along with the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders and New York Giants.

The Seahawks are already heavily reliant on Lockett and fellow superstar DK Metcalf in the passing game, which will hugely hamper their post-season aspirations.

Lockett ranks eight in the league in receiving yards and ninth in catches in what many expected to be a tough year for him after the Seahawks traded away quarterback Russell Wilson.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury late in Thursday night’s game, a loss to their division rival San Francisco 49ers, one that secured the NFC West for the Niners and their play-off berth with it.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed the news, as he said: “There’s a couple different ways that they can do the surgery. One of the ways gives him a chance to be back.

“Remember Rashaad Penny … had an injury similar, very similar. So they’ve already floated that thought and they’re going to talk about all the options and all that and we’re going to love him up and take care of him. Whatever the right thing to do to take care of him, we’re going to do.”

Injury

With Tyler Lockett expected to miss significant time due to a hand injury, the Seattle Seahawks’ cupboard of wide receivers is a bit thin at the reserve level.

The Seattle Seahawks playoff hopes were dealt a significant setback with their 21-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night at Lumen Field. Seattle dropped to 7-7 on the season, now having lost for the fourth time in five games.

However, their most significant complication may have come in the form of losing wide receiver Tyler Lockett to a broken bone in his index finger.

Lockett played the majority of the game and tied for the team lead with seven receptions and paced the receiving corps with 68 yards. Still. his exit late in the game ensures that he will be sidelined for some period of time.

Lockett’s absence will push veteran Marquise Goodwin from the No. 3 to the No. 2 role behind top receiver DK Metcalf. Carroll did provide a positive update on second-year receiver Dee Eskridge, who is closer to returning from the broken hand that landed him on injured reserve. He’s eligible to get back on the field next week.
