Bertuzzi was drafted 78th overall in the 2011 OHL Entry Draft by the Guelph Storm.

During the 2011–12 season, Bertuzzi played in 61 games for Guelph in his first full year in the OHL. Making his OHL debut on September 22, 2011, he recorded a fight.

Bertuzzi finished with six goals, 11 assists, and 117 penalty minutes. Bertuzzi played in all six of Guelph’s playoff games, finishing the series with two assists.

During the 2012–13 season, Bertuzzi had 13 goals and had nine assists in 43 games.

The Detroit Red Wings have traded winger Tyler Bertuzzi to the Boston Bruins for a top-10 protected 2024 first-round pick and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Bertuzzi, 28, has four goals and 14 points while being limited to 29 games this season due to injury. The Red Wings are retaining half of his $4.75 million cap hit.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun notes the Red Wings and Bertuzzi had not discussed a contract extension since December. 

Bertuzzi had a career year in 2021-22, scoring 30 goals and adding 32 assists in 61 games. He is in the final season of a two-year, $9.5 million contract. 

The Sudbury, Ont., product has 88 goals and 202 points in 305 career NHL games with the Red Wings.

It marks the second big trade leading up to Friday’s deadline for the Bruins, who acquired Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals last week.

The Bruins are, however, dealing with some injury trouble. After making the trade for Bertuzzi, they placed forward Taylor Hall on long-term injured reserve and forward Nick Foligno on injured reserve.

General manager Don Sweeney did not rule out the possibility of either player having surgery when speaking to reporters Thursday.

The Bruins (47-8-5) have 99 points in 60 games, 13 more points than the second-best team, the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Red Wings are currently fifth in the Atlantic Division with 64 points and a 28-22-9 record.

They are two points away from the Wild Card spot, which is currently taken by the Buffalo Sabres with 66 points.

With a win today, the Red Wings will take fourth place in the table. Detroit have won seven of their last ten games with crucial wins against teams like the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals and the Edmonton Oilers.

Tonight’s game will be the third meeting between the two teams. They are tied 1-1 in head-to-head with the Ottawa Senators winning game one 6-3 and the Detroit Red Wings winning the second with a 4-2 scoreline. They are also scheduled to meet twice more after tonight.

Dylan Larkin and Brady Tkachuk will have a fierce battle tonight. Larkin has 22 goals and 35 assists for the Red Wings. Tkahchuk has 24 goals and 37 assits in 58 games for the Senators this season.

Tyler Bertuzzi was Detroit’s 58th overall pick in the 2013 NHL entry draft. In his rookie season, he played only seven games for the Red Wings, as he was assigned to the Grand Rapid Griffins of the AHL. There, he played 48 games and scored 37 points from 12 goals and 25 assists.

Bertuzzi played his first full season with the Red Wings in 2018-19 and had 47 points in 73 games from 21 goals and 26 assists. He was also a participant in the 2020 NHL All-Star game.
