Selected third overall by the 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lance spent most of his rookie season as a backup. Lance was named the starter in 2022, but his season was cut short by injury.
Lance was redshirted for the 2018 season, but played in two games where he recorded two rushing touchdowns.
He was named the starter in 2019 and led the Bison to the 2020 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game and was named the MVP in the 28–20 victory.
49ers quarterback Trey Lance’s Sunday ended when he hurt his ankle in the first quarter against the Seahawks and it looks like his season has come to an end as well.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Lance is expected to have season-ending surgery on his lower leg in the near future, but PFT has learned, via a league source, that it is not 100 percent certain to end his season. Either way, Lance is set to miss a significant amount of time.
Lance went down at the end of a short run and his leg buckled under him in an awkward fashion. Medical personnel immediately put an air cast on his lower right leg and the reaction from players on both teams made it clear that Lance had suffered a significant injury.
Jimmy Garoppolo replaced Lance as the 49ers’ decision to rework Garoppolo’s contract to keep him as Lance’s backup paid off on Sunday. Now it looks like Garoppolo will be the starter for the rest of the year.
Trey Lance ankle
Lance broke his ankle during the San Francisco 49ers’ 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, coach Kyle Shanahan announced postgame.
The second-year quarterback is scheduled to have surgery on Monday that will sideline him for the rest of the season.
“It’s always tough, especially when it’s a big one like that,” Shanahan said. “We were real happy about the win, but it was a little somber once you got in the locker room and you see him.”
Lance’s injury occurred when he was hit low after he took a read-option and ran the football between the tackles in the first quarter.
Lance, 22, was writhing in pain on the grass before he was carted off the field by the 49ers’ medical staff. He did not return.

During Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance saw his first significant playing time when he relieved an injured Garoppolo in the second half.
He completed 9 of 18 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 41 yards on seven carries, with the 49ers ultimately losing 21–28.
Due to Garoppolo’s injury, Lance was named the starter for the following week’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Lance completed 15 of 29 passes for 192 yards, rushed for 89 yards on 16 carries, and threw his first interception on the 49ers’ opening drive to safety Budda Baker in the 10–17 defeat.
Lance was named the starter over Garoppolo for the 2022 season, but appeared in only two games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
His only full game of the season was the opener against the Chicago Bears, which saw him complete 13 of 28 passes for 164 yards and an interception in a 10–19 loss.
There were undoubtedly mixed emotions coming from the 49ers locker room after their 27-7 win over the Seahawks on Sunday.
The 49ers played well in their one-sided win over the Seahawks, giving them the boost they needed after a highly disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 1.
But the win came at a cost, as the team lost quarterback Trey Lance to what appears to be a season-ending ankle injury.
Lance was on the minds of a number of 49ers after the game, as well as head coach Kyle Shanahan.
His injury was tough to swallow considering where he is in his career and how much he prepared coming into his first season as the team’s starter.
Shanahan and the 49ers have seen more than their share of significant quarterback injuries over the past few seasons.
They lost Jimmy Garoppolo to significant injuries twice and now lost Lance, which marks the third time since 2018 their starting quarterback suffered a season-ending injury.
Trey Lance’s net worth in 2022 is $10 million. This is according to numerous sources, including Media Referee.
|Father’s Name||Carlton Lance|
|Mother’s Name||Angie Lance|

As said previously, the majority of the money comes from Lance’s contract with the 49ers.
The youngster signed a four-year, $34 million deal with the San Francisco-based franchise in 2021 when he was drafted.
It is important to understand how Lance got to the NFL and the path he took there.
