On April 28, 2021, the Giants picked up the fifth-year option on Barkley’s contract, worth a guaranteed $7.217 million for the 2022 season.

Running back Saquon Barkley suffered a shoulder injury in the second half of Sunday’s game against the Packers in London. The team officially listed him as questionable to return, which he did in the fourth quarter.
Additionally, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson will not return after leaving with knee and neck injuries. Fullback Chris Myarick also suffered an ankle injury.
Barkley was checked in the medical tent and also taken inside briefly to be examined. He was shaking his right arm when he left the game.
Barkley returned to the game on the following drive. On the second play, he caught a 40-yard pass. He finished that drive with a 2-yard scoring run to give the Giants a 27-20 lead.
Entering Sunday’s game, Barkley was leading the NFL in rushing yards and total yards from scrimmage.
