Despite playing only two collegiate seasons, his 18.8 yards per reception average and 1,197 receiving yards were a team record for his position.

The Patriots drafted Gronkowski in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 42nd pick, after he missed his junior year due to back surgery, immediately becoming a major contributor to the franchise’s dynasty.

A complete tight end, he was considered elite as both a receiver and a blocker. He set several NFL records, including being the first player of his position to lead the league in receiving touchdowns (17 in 2011).

Did Rob Gronkowski make the kick

One of the most anticipated moments of Super Bowl 57 will not be the game itself, but will involve a field goal attempt.

Former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star tight end Rob Gronkowski will attempt a field goal at some point in the third quarter as part of a promotion with FanDuel. Here’s approximately when the attempt will happen.

Gronkowski, as you might expect, has never attempted a field goal in his NFL career. The tight end retired after last season’s playoff loss but has remained around the game in various capacities.

He’s a regular on Fox’s NFL countdown show and will now enter the sports betting market with this FanDuel promotion.

It’s important to note the kick isn’t happening in State Farm Stadium. It is taking place at an undisclosed location in the Phoenix area.

Given the stakes of the actual football game, it makes sense why Gronk isn’t allowed to randomly take the field during the contest.

With his coach and one of the best kicker’s in NFL history, Adam Vinatieri, in attendance, Gronkowski’s kick curved left. No good.

Gronkowski obviously never kicked during his NFL career, and there’s a clear reason why.

Kick the goal

Rob Gronkowski’s “Kick of Destiny” was shown at State Farm Stadium in the fourth quarter. The kick started off looking strong, but picked up a hook and sailed wide of the left upright. No good.

Instead of the “Kick of Destiny,” maybe the folks at FanDuel should let Rob Gronkowski do what he does best — catch a touchdown pass in the end zone, run back to the goal line and try spiking the football so it bounces through the uprights.

That might be more compelling than what’s planned for Super Bowl 57, when the former NFL tight end, Arizona Wildcat and four-time Super Bowl champion attempts a 25-yard field goal — from an undisclosed location somewhere in the Phoenix area — in a promotional stunt that will be shown on the video boards at State Farm Stadium at some point during the third quarter of Sunday’s big game.

If Gronk makes the kick, everyone who has placed a $5 or more bet on the Super Bowl will win a share of $10 million in free bets. Gronkowski said his motivation to nail the kick is “for everybody in America.”

The campaign ads have been fantastic, and it all sounded warm and fuzzy until Gronkowski revealed a few of the details behind the actual “Kick of Destiny” during a lighthearted news conference earlier in the week near Radio Row at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The biggest shocker, previously unknown, is that his field goal attempt won’t be happening at State Farm Stadium live in front of the fans. The fact that it’s going to take place at some unnamed field in front of only a camera crew seems somewhat disingenuous.
