Richmond Marathon : Prize money | Road closure
The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race held in Richmond, Virginia, USA. It was established in 1978 and has been run every year since.
It was known as the Richmond Newspapers Marathon until 1997 and then as SunTrust Richmond Marathon until 2011.
Sports Backers produces the event and serves as the non-profit beneficiary of the event.
The event supports efforts to make running accessible to Richmond area youth through the Kids Run RVA program.
The inaugural marathon in 1978 saw 1,183 take part in the main event with an additional 900 in the 8 km run and 639 in the half marathon.
Richmond Marathon prize money
The 45th Richmond Marathon hits the local streets early Saturday morning. In some areas, no-parking signs are up and enforcement begins for most at 9 PM but some restricted parking and detours have already begun.
16,000 runners will be lacing up their shoes on Saturday for the 45th annual Richmond Marathon.
- Prize money: $1,800 for Richmond area runners only (Richmond-Petersburg MSA) in marathon only
- First place male: $500 in marathon (3 deep); local runners only (Richmond-Petersburg MSA)
- First place female: $500 in marathon (3 deep); local runners only (Richmond-Petersburg MSA)
On Friday, Nov. 11, Richmond Raceway was busy as many were picking up their bibs.
Ainsley Hibbard hasn’t competed in the Richmond Marathon in three years. On Saturday, she will be running in the full marathon for the first time. She joins thousands of runners who have been preparing to beat their personal records.
Other runners, like Courtney Legum-Wenk, ran three marathons and are getting ready to run their 20th half marathon. For Legum-Wenk, it’s less about the records and more about the experience.
“This race is just incredible — just to register for and plan for and it’s just a really great fun race to participate in,” Legum-Wenk explains.
The Richmond Marathon is split between three races and begins Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 a.m.
There will be numerous and frequent lane closures along all of the courses starting Friday morning and continuing through Saturday evening.
This includes closures on: Broad Street, North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Monument Avenue, Grove Avenue, Maple Avenue, Cary Street Road, River Road, Scottview Drive, Forest Hill Avenue, Semmes Avenue, the Lee Bridge, Belvidere Street, West Main Street, Hermitage Road, Fauqier Avenue, Brook Road.
The Richmond Police Department says restricted parking and detours throughout the city will start at 10 a.m. Friday.
Towing in areas posted with “No Parking” signs will begin at 9 p.m. Friday.
