The Met has today referred itself to a police watchdog after armed officers subjected a black sprinter an ‘aggressive’ traffic stop – two years after a ‘racially profiled’ stop and search incident.

It comes after Portuguese athlete Ricardo dos Santos – the partner of British track star Bianca Williams – was stopped by a group of armed police while driving home in his Tesla in London yesterday morning.

The 27-year-old sprinter claims the vehicle was surrounded by ‘at least’ seven officers during the stop on the A40 in west London.

Footage shows one of the armed officers banging on the window before unfurling his collapsible baton. Dos Santos claims the man was ‘aggressive’ and was ‘ready to smash the glass’.

After speaking to him, the officers let Ricardo go on his way without facing further action. Mr dos Santos said the incident showed that ‘nothing had changed’ two years after he was pulled over with his partner Ms Williams – a Commonwealth 200 metre and relay bronze medalist – and their child.

I was recently asked to deliver a keynote talk at the Intrapreneurship Conference in Silicon Valley last November.

The conference organizers kindly asked me to cover the leading trends in the field of Intrapreneurship, also known as Corporate Entrepreneurship.

To do the task justice, I sent out a wide survey and also interviewed a dozen clients as well as multi-industry.

The 27-year-old told the BBC his phone was between his thighs, and accused the Met of “over-policing”.

Five officers face a gross misconduct hearing over a stop-and-search in 2020 involving the Portuguese sprinter and his partner.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live about the incident, Mr Dos Santos explained that he felt unsafe to stop on the A40 Westway and “went around” the police car to avoid driving into the back of it. He then continued driving for a further five minutes.

In a statement, the Met said: “The officers clearly indicated for the car to pull over but it failed to do so and they called for further assistance.”

“It is a long time on a regular street but this was a flyover. For my safety, and based on my previous incidents with them [police], I thought that the best place to stop was somewhere lit up and with the possibility of witnesses.”

A Union County grand jury has upgraded the charges against a Union Township man accused of killing a rookie Hillside cop in a high-speed drunk-driving crash in October.

Ricardo Dos-Santos, 29, was indicted this week on first-degree counts of manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

In January, prosecutors had charged the police officer’s friend with less serious offenses.

One of the reasons for the upgraded charges is that the crash happened within 1,000 feet of a school.

The Oct. 15 crash on Routes 1&9 in Linden killed 30-year-old Giovanni Esposito, who had served on the police force for six months.
