He had been in and out of hospital in recent months after a tumor was found on his colon.
Pele, whose given name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, scored a world record 1,281 goals, and is the only player ever to win the World Cup three times.
With sublime skills and a winning smile, he helped make soccer the world’s most popular sport and he charmed popes, presidents and Hollywood stars in a seven-decade career as player and ambassador for the sport.
How did pele died
Brazilian football legend Pele died of multiple organ failure on Thursday, the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in Sao Paolo said in its official bulletin, obtained by TASS.
“The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein confirms with regret the news of Pele’s death,” the hospital said, adding that the legendary footballer “was pronounced dead at 15:27 local time [21:27 Moscow time] on December 29.”
“On his journey, Edson enchanted the world with his genius in sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be the cure for all our problems: love.
“His message today becomes a legacy for future generations. Love, love and love, forever.”
Family members had been gathering at a Sao Paulo hospital, where he was suffering from worsening cancer as well as kidney and heart problems, for several days in the lead-up to his death.
His daughter, Kely Nascimento, posted a photo at 6am (AEDT) on Friday showing the family placing their hands on the patriarch in his final moments.
“Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace,” Kely wrote.
Pele Cause of death
Pelé has left a great legacy after his death. The player has left the world after a tough battle against a colon tumor that was found in September 2021. His disease led him to a variety of chemotherapies, which were unsuccessful.
According to recent medical reports, there were kidney and heart complications in his body that led him to intensive care and it is speculated that later, his death.
Despite the above, the official causes of death remain to be known, but, as mentioned above, for now, it is known that it was due to complications from colon cancer that had been afflicting him for a year.
