Kyrgios wasn’t even in the Grand Slam conversation at the start of 2022 but has rediscovered his potential in recent months.

Since his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios has come back to the court better than ever.

After losing the Wimbledon final, some may have expected Kyrgios to slump back into bad habits

But rather than regress, the 27-year-old has made some notable progress with how he handles setbacks on the court.

While still prone to occasional outbursts and umpire callouts, he has shown a calmer side over the past month.

Benjamin Bonzi

Australian Nick Kyrgios powered past Benjamin Bonzi to reach the third round of the U.S. Open with a hard fought 7-6(3) 6-4 4-6 6-4 win over the Frenchman on Wednesday.

The big-serving 23rd seed struck 30 aces and broke Bonzi for a fourth time on match point to end the punishing match under the lights at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

“His level today was incredible, I was not expecting an absolute war,” Kyrgios said in an on-court interview.

“That could have gone either way. He was up a break early in the fourth but I played some really risky tennis late in the fourth set to win. I’m just happy to get through.”

In their first career meeting, the pair exchanged breaks in the first set before Kyrgios captured it in a tiebreak and broke early in the second to cruise to a 2-0 lead.

Nick Kyrgios vs J.J wolf

World number 25 Nick Kyrgios will be up against the 87th-ranked JJ Wolf in the third round of the 2022 US Open on Friday, September 2.

There have been no previous meetings between Kyrgios and Wolf on a tennis court.

Wolf’s record at Grand Slam tennis is rather peculiar. He has never gone past the qualifying stage at any of the other Grand Slam appearances but for the 2020 US Open where he had made the third round.

Kyrgios is a very heavy favourite yet again but he would do well to not take Wolf for granted. We could be looking at a Kyrgios win again though given his focus but one in which he loses a set.
