Max Verstappen was left with no regrets over his failed overtake on Lewis Hamilton during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, while explaining that he had “reasons” for not returning a position to team mate Sergio Perez late in the race.
Verstappen attacked Hamilton for P2 after an early Safety Car restart but the pair came to blows in the middle of the Senna Esses, sending both drivers off the track and forcing the Dutchman to pit for repairs.
While Verstappen questioned over the radio where he was meant to place his car, the stewards were of the opinion that the Red Bull man was at fault and handed him a five-second time penalty – adding to an already tough recovery job.
Max Verstappen relationship
Early on in his Toro Rosso days, Max Verstappen was dating Swedish racing driver Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky. She is currently racing for Rosberg X Racing in the Extreme E Championship.
The Swede was very open about her relationship with Verstappen and often referred to him as her “boyfriend” in social media posts.
At the start of the 2017 season, Max Verstappen was rumored to be dating Dutch hockey player Maxime Pourquie, who is now into coaching.
The two had been photographed together on several occasions. They were also tagged together in multiple social media posts with friends early in Verstappen’s racing career.
Back in 2016, Max Verstappen took the F1 world by storm by winning his maiden race at the Spanish Grand Prix as a young 18-year-old boy.
Soon after, he was linked to student and Belgian content creator Joyce Godefridi, who was reportedly studying marketing at the Catholic University of Leuven at the time.
By the end of 2017, Max Verstappen had started dating German student Dilara Sanlik, who was reportedly studying in London at the time. During the time of the relationship, Sanlik kept her life extremely private and preferred to remain outside the spotlight. She did so by keeping her social media accounts private and away from the paparazzi.
Brazilian model Kelly Piquet, who is the daughter of three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet, has been in a relationship with Max Verstappen since January 2021.
Back in 2017, Piquet was dating former Red Bull F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, with whom she has a daughter. Although, the relationship ended in December of the same year.
Max Verstappen Girlfriend
Kelly Piquet, the daughter of former Formula One world champion Nelson Piquet Sr, has been dating Verstappen since 2020.
And after securing his second successive title, Kelly posed in a daring photoshoot on her Instagram.
The photo was complete with a forest back drop and a heavy black-and-white filter.
Loved up duo Kelly and Verstappen posted a photo of her kissing the Dutchman on the cheek after he completed his title victory around Suzuka, Japan.
However, the 33-year-old used to date former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat.
The pair even had a child, Penelope, in 2019.
Kelly’s father won three F1 titles with three different teams in 1981, 1983 and 1987.
An irritable Max Verstappen refused to give up sixth place to Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez on the final laps of Sunday’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix with a rasping rebuke on team radio.
The world champion, who collided with his 2021 title rival seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton on lap seven of a stormy race, told his race engineer not to ask him to concede position again in stern fashion.
The Dutchman, who clinched his second drivers’ title at last month’s Japanese Grand Prix, was disappointed and frustrated at his fate in an incident-filled race that saw Red Bull miss out on a podium finish for the first time since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
“Max let Checo through, please,” his engineer had asked him, the team seeking to assist their Mexican driver in his bid to finish ahead of Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ championship.
As a result, in a race won by George Russell, who claimed his maiden triumph ahead of team-mate and compatriot seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, Perez is level with Ferrari’s Leclerc on 290 points, but the Monegasque is second as he has one more race win this season.
Asked in an interview on Sky Sports F1 to explain his decision not to cooperate with the Red Bull team and help Perez, Verstappen said he had his own reasons.
