Matheus Santos Carneiro Cunha, commonly known as Matheus Cunha, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for La Liga club Atlético Madrid and the Brazil national team.
|Full name||Matheus Santos Carneiro Cunha|
|Date of birth||27 May 1999|
|Place of birth||João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil|
|Height||1.84 m (6 ft 0 in)|
Cunha played youth football in Brazil for Coritiba. At the age of 18, he moved to Europe to join Swiss club Sion.
He then played for Bundesliga clubs RB Leipzig and Hertha BSC, before joining Atlético in August 2021.
Cunha won a gold medal with the Brazil under-23 team at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He made his senior international debut in September 2021.
United are close to tying down the striker from Atletico Madrid as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his attacking options.
The Red Devils are excessively light in the attacking department and it seems that Ten Hag could soon be afforded another body to choose from if the news currently emerging is anything to go by.
Cunha would represent just the fourth signing of the Ten Hag era in what many fans consider a failed and frustrating summer transfer window.
As per talkSPORTt, United are set to part with €50m for Cunha’s services as he makes a switch from Spain to Old Trafford.
It is also important to note that any deal that would facilitate Cunha’s arrival at the Theatre of Dreams does not include Cristiano Ronaldo going the other way.
“It’s understood the deal for Matheus Cunha will not involve any swap for Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Manchester United’s interest in Matheus Cunha is developing quickly. First reported by Julien Laurens, a report from The Mail has also backed up the possible move.

United are looking for a striker to add to the mix with Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo, whose future remains unclear.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has given his steer on the Matheus Cunha to Manchester United rumours.
He says no deal has been agreed, but talks have taken place between United and Cunha’s agents.
Manchester United hold interest in Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha, claims ESPN’s Julien Laurens.
He says the 23-year-old is on United’s striker shortlist and is ‘keen’ to join Manchester United.
His first season in Spain was a struggle, scoring only seven goals in all competitions, however, this was mainly owed to a lack of game time.
His record at Hertha Berlin was not especially prolific either, where he scored 13 goals in 40 games for the club after a move from RB Leipzig.
Cunha has seven international caps for Brazil although has not scored yet for his country.
He has only reached double figures once in a season, this came at the start of his career in Switzerland with FC Sion.
