Injury update

Though X-rays on Mac Jones’ ankle reportedly came back negative, the Patriots aren’t out of the woods yet. ’

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Jones will undergo an MRI Monday after hobbling off the field in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

NFL Network’s Mike Giardi reports the team is fearful that their second-year quarterback did some damage that wouldn’t show up on an X-Ray.

“Per team sources, the concern/fear is that Mac Jones suffered tendon and/or ligament damage,” Giardi tweeted. “X-rays wouldn’t show that. More pictures to be taken. Stay tuned.”

Jones was last seen limping off the field late in Sunday’s game against the Ravens before being helped to the locker room. Jones was not spotted in the locker room after the game and did not speak to the media. However, Jones is currently scheduled to speak to reporters on Monday.

After the loss to Baltimore, running back Damien Harris said he was “extremely confident” that the Patriots will be able to handle any adversity coming their way.

“We’re confident that any time we step on the field, we have a chance,” Harris said. “We’ve got great coaches. We’ve got a great scheme. And we’ve got great players. When you have that combination, that gives you a lot of confidence that regardless of who you’re playing against, what defense, you have an opportunity to go out there to be successful.”

What happened to

The New England Patriots could be without their starting quarterback in the coming weeks.

Mac Jones is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s 37-26 loss to the Ravens and is likely to miss some time, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.

Jones will have an MRI on Monday and Rapoport added that if the MRI confirms the sprain, a trip to injured reserve is potentially in play.

The injury occurred on an interception during the Patriots’ final offensive play of the game, after which Jones hopped to the sideline, unable to put weight on the injured leg.

Jones went 22 of 32 for 321 yards and three interceptions before exiting as the team fell short in a comeback bid against Baltimore.

This marks the second time in three weeks that Jones has sustained an injury late in a game. Jones dealt with back spasms in the Patriots’ season opener against the Dolphins.

The loss dropped New England to 1-2 on the season.

If Jones does indeed miss time, the Patriots’ options behind center are 36-year-old Brian Hoyer, who is in his third stint with the Patriots, and fourth-round rookie Bailey Zappe as New England looks to climb back to a .500 record in Week 4 against the Packers.

Mac Jones griddy and the Patriots are having some fun in the first half of Sunday’s home opener against the Ravens.

With 6:04 remaining in the second quarter, Jones gave New England a 10-7 lead with a rushing score from three yards out.

Following the touchdown, Jones celebrated by hitting the Griddy – the dance that has taken the NFL by storm since it was introduced by Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson in 2020.

This isn’t the first time Jones has showed off his dance moves – he memorably did the Griddy at last year’s Pro Bowl as well.

Jones and company have played a solid game so far, trailing Baltimore 14-13 at the half.

You may be wondering how the Griddy began trending in the NFL. It traces back to Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who started doing it at LSU and then brought it with him to the big leagues.
