Luke Knox, a former Ole Miss football tight end and linebacker who transferred to FIU this offseason, has died. Check out his cause of death.

He was a former standout at Brentwood Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, who played at Ole Miss for four seasons (2018 – 2021).

In his freshman year in 2018, he redshirted after playing in one game.

The following year, he developed to become a factor at linebacker when MacIntyre was the Ole Miss defensive coordinator.

He made 10 tackles, two of which were for a loss, with two pass breakups as a redshirt freshman that year.

In 2020, he made one tackle and did not record any statistics after moving to the tight end position before last season.

Florida International University linebacker Luke Knox, the younger brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, passed away suddenly at the age of 22, FIU Athletics announced Thursday on Twitter.

FIU coach Mike MacIntyre released a statement, writing that he will always remember Knox for his passion for football and his genuine love for his family and teammates. Knox transferred from Ole Miss to Florida International this offseason.

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend Luke Knox,” said MacIntyre, who previously coached Knox at Ole Miss before becoming the head coach at FIU in December. 

Cause of death 

A cause of death for Knox was not revealed. FIU said police did not suspect foul play, according to USA Today.

“He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident. Luke’s family is special to me, and they will continually be in my heart and in my prayers during this difficult time.

On behalf of the entire FIU football family, I extend sincere condolences to Luke’s family and all who love him.”

Knox transferred to FIU after spending most of his collegiate career at Ole Miss.

He was a three-star prospect when he committed to Tennessee and was named first-team all-state by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Ole Miss 

Knox transferred from Ole Miss to FIU in the off-season. As a redshirt freshman in 2019 for the Rebels, he made two starts and saw plenty of action. He made ten tackles all season long.

Luke comes from a sporting family heritage. Knox’s brother, an NFL player, served as inspiration.

Despite the fact that his brother is a well-known player, Luke was a newcomer to the world of football.

Officials claim that Luke would have soon assumed leadership of the sector but was taken from us too soon.

He changed positions when he started out as a player in 2021 as a junior, moving from linebacker to tight end.

Florida International’s Luke Knox, a linebacker, died at the age of 22. The death of Knox was announced on Thursday morning by FIU coach Mike MacIntyre. 

David Knox and Rachel Knox are the parents of Luke Knox.
