Born in Ljubljana, Dončić shone as a youth player for Union Olimpija before joining the youth academy of Real Madrid. In 2015 he made his debut for the academy’s senior team at age 16, becoming the youngest in club history.

Two years later, he led Madrid to the 2018 EuroLeague title, winning the EuroLeague MVP as well as the Final Four MVP.

Dončić was also named the ACB Most Valuable Player and won back-to-back EuroLeague Rising Star and ACB Best Young Player awards. He was selected to the EuroLeague 2010–20 All-Decade Team.

In 2018, Dončić declared for the NBA draft, joining the Dallas Mavericks. He was selected unanimously to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and won Rookie of the Year for the 2018–19 season.

Luka Doncic 41 point triple double 

Luka Doncic performed a 41-point, 14-assist, 11-rebound triple-double to help the Dallas Mavericks overcome terrific efforts from Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and beat the Brooklyn Nets to move to 2-2 on the season.

Doncic made 14 of 28 shots from the field to secure the 129-125 victory Thursday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Irving scored 39 points for the Nets. Durant scored 37 in the loss.

”It’s fun, especially when you win,” Doncic told reporters. “But during the game, I just have fun. Sometimes, that’s the key to my game.”

The Mavericks made 50.6% of their shots and were 20 of 40 from 3-point range. The Nets made 46.2% of their shots and were 12 of 35 from downtown.

“We had some good looks and very makeable shots,” Irving told reporters. “We have to live with the results, We did some good things, but it just wasn’t good enough.”

The game featured 15 lead changes and was tied 13 times. Doncic scored 13 over the first 12 minutes to help the Mavericks take a 30-23 lead into the second quarter. The Nets outscored the Mavericks 36-31 over the next 12 minutes to cut the deficit to two points at halftime.

Fan arrested 

A fan threw a cup at Luka Doncic during Thursday’s game between the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets. According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, the fan was arrested.

On Thursday evening, the Brooklyn Nets fell to 1-4 in their first five games when they lost to the Dallas Mavericks in overtime by a score of 129-105.

The game was played on their home floor at Barclays Center in New York, and during overtime, a fan threw a cup onto the floor at Luka Doncic while Kevin Durant was shooting a free throw.  

According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps the fan has been arrested.

Bontemps: “The person who threw the cup of ice onto the court during overtime here at Barclays Center was arrested, a spokesperson said.”

As for the game, the Mavs have improved to 2-2 on the season, and Doncic finished his night with 41 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists and three steals.  

At only 23 years old, he is very clearly one of the top-ten players in the entire NBA. 

Last season, he led the Mavs to the Western Conference Finals.
