From 2014 to 2016, Leilua played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons’ NYC team.

On 25 July 2014, he re-signed with the Dragons on a 2-year contract until the end of 2016. In November and December 2014, he played for the Australian Schoolboys.

In Round 22 of the 2016 NRL season, Leilua made his NRL debut for the Dragons against the Brisbane Broncos and in September, he was named at second-row in the 2016 NYC Team of the Year.

Officers went to the home in Harrington Park and arrested Leilua on Monday.

He was taken to Camden police station where he was charged with two domestic violence offences – common assault and damaging or destroying property.

“The North Queensland Cowboys have been made aware of an alleged incident regarding player Luciano Leilua, which has resulted in police charges,” the club said.

“The club is gathering further information and assisting the NRL Integrity Unit as well as providing support to all parties involved.

Leilua, 26, was arrested at a home in Harrington Park, south west of Sydney, on Monday.

Police charged him with two domestic violence offences – common assault and damaging or destroying property, the Townsville Bulletin reported.

He was granted bail and will face Campbelltown Local Court on October 11.

Leilua is due to represent Samoa at the Rugby League World Cup, which begins in the UK on October 15.

Leilua has played 110 NRL games and joined the Cowboys on a deal worth more than $2 million last year.

He previously played for St. George Illawarra and Wests Tigers.

“Police were called to a home on Alexandra Crescent at Harrington Park about 1pm today after receiving reports about an alleged domestic violence incident,” NSW Police said.

The proud new parents welcomed their little girl, Ida-Lynn Leilua, on Friday afternoon, keeping Leilua’s match count intact and the couple’s relationship healthy.

The Samoan forward hasn’t enjoyed as much sleep over the past week as a first-time dad and believes the experience will help better him as a person and player.

As the joint venture’s struggles to reach the playoffs continued this season but Leilua remains optimistic they can turn things around in 2021.

“It’s a bit disappointing, overall the whole season was disappointing,” he said.

“The last couple of games we’ve shown the character in how we want to play. Besides not making the finals I feel I’ve had a pretty good year.

“Madge has played a big part in my footy this year. He’s given me a lot of confidence and belief.

“That’s what I asked for and he’s let me do what I can do.”
