He idolized LeBron James, who he began following around age six and when James was a first-year NBA player with Cleveland. Ball grew up with his younger brothers, LiAngelo and LaMelo.

Until they reached high school, the trio played together on teams coached by their father. Ball played basketball at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California.

As a junior in 2014–15, he averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds, 9.1 assists, 5 blocks, and 5 steals.

In his senior year, he led the school to a 35–0 record and a state title, and the Huskies were ranked the consensus No. 1 team in the nation.

His younger brothers, junior LiAngelo and freshman LaMelo, were also on the team, as well as his cousin Andre.

Lonzo Ball never play again

Lonzo Ball was one of the biggest names in basketball over the last half-decade or so. After a highlight-filled freshman season at UCLA, he started his NBA career off solid enough over his five seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Chicago Bulls.

However, a knee injury that he suffered in ’21-’22 has kept him off of the court for some time now.

Now, per the latest reports, it could take him off the floor forever. In an appearance on the ‘Organizations Win Championships’ Podcast, Dan Bernstein of 670 The Score shared some pretty alarming rumblings about Ball. Per his intel within the Bulls organization, he said that the franchise ‘privately believes Ball won’t ever step foot on an NBA court again.’

The worst part about this is that Ball was finding his stride as a pro when we last saw him. In ’20-’21, his last season with the Pelicans, he posted career-highs in points per game and free-throw percentage.

Even so, that injury has kept him out for over a year now as he missed all of this season. Back in March, Ball had his third surgery on his left knee where doctors did a cartilage transplant. It was yet another brutal setback for the 25-year-old. Still, from what Bulls head coach Billy Donovan said, it was ‘the best chance to be able to get him back on the court.’

Doug Gottlieb reported that the Lakers believe his first injury was caused by his shoes, made by the Big Baller Brand.

As pessimism seems to grow, those words might not end up being the case. None of it might end up true, unfortunately, as it appears Ball’s career could very much be in jeopardy if things don’t change for the better soon.

What’s wrong with Lonzo Ball

Ball has been dealing with a knee injury the past season and half. He played only 35 games in 2021-22 before going down with a torn meniscus in his left knee.

He underwent a couple of surgeries to address the issue, but while there were expectations he would be able to return at some point in the 2022-23 campaign, that didn’t happen. Lonzo missed all of the past season, sparking concerns about his real condition.

Last March, Ball underwent a third surgery in hopes of finally fixing his knee injury. He had cartilage transplant surgery, which the Bulls hope can give the playmaker a pathway to full recovery and to playing again.

In a rather harsh update, however, it has been rumored that some within the Bulls organization have fears that Ball’s playing career is over, per Dan Bernstein of 670 The Score.

“The Chicago Bulls privately don’t think that it’s likely Lonzo Ball will ever play again,” Daniel Greenberg tweeted, relaying the information that Bernstein shared on the Organizations Win Championship Podcast.

The Bulls have yet to respond to these latest rumors about Lonzo Ball’s injury status. While there is probably more to the story, it’s not hard to see where all the talks started.

Considering Ball’s inability to return, it’s not surprising to hear that some within the franchise has such thoughts.

Here’s to hoping that Ball will be able to bounce back and return to playing once again, though. He has too much talent and it will be heartbreaking to see it wasted because of injuries.
