On 17 March 2022, the first eight tournament schedule with prize money of $255 million was announced by Greg Norman.
The no cut 54-hole tournaments feature 48 players drafted into 12 four-man teams, with shotgun starts.
The first seven events have $20 million purses with an additional $5 million split among the top three teams each week; a team championship concludes the schedule with $30 million on offer to the top three players and an additional $50 million in team prizes.
LIV Golf prize money
In the first seven events of LIV Golf’s inaugural season, the Saudi-backed circuit has prize money payouts of $25 million for its individual and team components. For its eighth and final event of 2022, the upstart tour is doubling that.
The overall purse for the LIV Golf Team Championship – Miami is $50 million, with the four-man team that wins on Sunday earning $16 million to split among its members.
This week’s event is solely a team competition, being played at Trump National Doral in Florida, and it’s employing a unique format.
On Friday, the four highest seeded teams among the 12 total receive byes. The remaining eight teams will compete in a head-to-head match-play bracket with the teams playing a mix of singles and foursome matches.

The four winning teams play the top four seeds on Saturday in a similar format. The four teams that advance from there will compete on Sunday, but the players will then play stroke play, with all four members’ scores counting to the team total.

The LIV Golf Team Championship in Miami will take place over three days and feature everything from byes, singles matches, foursomes and stroke play as teams compete for the $50 million purse.

Johnson’s 4 Aces GC commands the No. 1 overall seed and has earned a bye in Friday’s quarterfinals. Teams seeded Nos. 2-4 — Crushers GC, Fireballs GC and Stinger GC — will also have the day off while those squads ranked Nos. 5-12 vie for a spot in Saturday’s semifinals.
Four-time major champion Brooks Koepka will lead his fifth-ranked Smash GC into the Team Championship following its victory at LIV Golf Jeddah.
Koepka had his pick of the litter as the higher seeds chose the teams with whom they wish to match up against in the quarterfinals, and the same is true for the semifinals.
Merchandise
The LIV Golf Series is outside Boston this week for their fourth event. The breakaway league welcomed six new members in New England including world No. 2 Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Cameron Tringale, Harold Varner III, Marc Leishman and Anirban Lahiri.
The International is a New England gem and will play as a par 70 measuring just under 7,000 yards.
One of LIV Golf’s selling points is the team aspect of the competition, and the amount of squad-themed apparel in the merchandise shop reflects that.
