The Phoenix Suns’ trade for Kevin Durant looks like a bust right now. There’s no other takeaway after the Suns were eliminated from the 2023 NBA Playoffs in the second round by losing to the Denver Nuggets in six games.
Phoenix went out sad, falling 125-100 in Game 6 in what was a rout from the opening tip.
The Suns started Jock Landale, Cam Payne, and Landry Shamet in a do-or-die playoff game, so the outcome shouldn’t be too surprising.
The Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, four unprotected first-round picks, and a 2028 pick swap to Brooklyn for Durant at the trade deadline. Durant will turn 35 years old in the offseason.
Chris Paul turned 38 years old during the series against the Nuggets, and missed the last four games of the series with a groin strain.
The Suns are facing huge pressure to turn this into a championship team immediately. The roster needs a lot of upgrades, and the team doesn’t have any draft picks to trade to get them.
Kevin Durant Cancun
Kevin Durant wasn’t going to let the Warriors lose to the Clippers.
After already pouring in a 45 points in Game 5, the all-star forward wouldn’t let Golden State fall behind Los Angeles for too long.
He was on fire from the start scoring 38 points in the half before ultimately finishing with 50. He also did his part on the defensive end stealing the ball twice and blocking a shot.
Anytime the Clippers drew closet to the Warriors, he’d come up with a key basket. His effort along with the tone-setting defensive performance by Draymond Green allowed Golden State to finally put away Los Angeles in their first-round series. This photo gallery shows Durant’s dominance throughout the game.
The notion of Kevin Durant being indefensible was proven wrong by the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the first-round series.
His specialty of hovering over defenders was a no-show during the game and KD barely had his shots going in. He shot 0-10 from the field in the second half of the game followed by Kyrie Irving’s lackluster performance.
Kevin Durant has not shot well from the field this series making only 13 of 41 attempts. Based on his performance, the player took the media through the situation on the court saying, “I mean they’re playing two or three guys on me sometimes when I’m off the ball, they’re mucking up actions when I run off stuff. I see Horford leaving his man to come over to hit me sometimes. “
Kevin Durant Request trade
Kevin Durant reportedly asked the Brooklyn Nets to trade him to the Phoenix Suns after the team dealt Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst reported Friday on Durant’s request to Nets general manager Sean Marks:
“On Monday afternoon, Durant and his business partner Rich Kleiman had asked for a meeting. It was a somber one. Less than 24 hours earlier the Nets had traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks after a whirlwind three days of action. Now Durant was repeating the words he had said on the eve of free agency last June that had turned the NBA on its side for weeks.
“Again, Durant told Marks he wanted to be traded. Only this time, Durant specifically asked to be traded to the Suns. The group then FaceTimed Nets owner Joe Tsai, who was at his home in San Diego, with the decision.
“It was not fiery. It was a request, not a demand like Irving had made of the Nets the previous Friday. More importantly, in stark contrast to Durant’s public trade request last June and Irving’s maneuver, this was to stay a private appeal. Durant didn’t want a bidding war and days of being the target of intense speculation and online obsession.”
Brooklyn dealt Durant and T.J. Warren to Phoenix on Thursday for Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder and four unprotected first-round picks.
The Nets previously moved Irving and Markieff Morris to Dallas for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick and two second-round picks (2027 and 2029).
