Josh carr news
Fremantle assistant Josh Carr could become the key figure in a coaching succession plan at Port Adelaide, being pursued to return to the club he played in a premiership with for a role as midfield coach.
Carr, a confidante of Dockers senior coach Justin Longmuir, would become the man most likely to succeed Ken Hinkley at Port if he chooses to leave the Dockers.
Meanwhile, Fremantle have a decision to make on whether to re-visit their contract offer to Griffin Logue after strong indications this week that a $2 million offer over four seasons would not be enough to keep the swingman at the club.
Logue has a big offer on the table from North Melbourne who have gone on an all out recruiting since appointing Alastair Clarkson as senior coach.
Logue, teammates Blake Acres and Darcy Tucker and West Coast’s Junior Rioli were all sounded out about the possibility of joining the Kangaroos.
Tucker, still contracted by Fremantle is believed to be a strong chance to move North if a trade can be negotiated.
As recently as last week North were not convinced that Logue wanted to leave. They had put an offer to him, they were sure it was more than Fremantle’s four year, $500,000 per year offer but were under the impression Logue was still leaning towards staying.
Port Adelaide
Assistant coach Josh Carr has added to the looming exodus at Fremantle, with the Dockers confirming his departure.
Carr is expected to become the midfield coach at Port Adelaide, leaving him well-placed to succeed coach Ken Hinkley should the Power opt for change after Hinkley’s contract expires in 2023.
Carr played a key role in guiding the Dockers’ emerging midfield guns Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong.
Players Rory Lobb, Griffin Logue, Blake Acres and Darcy Tucker are hoping to depart in the upcoming trade period, while the future of back-up ruckman Lloyd Meek also remains unclear.
Triple Geelong premiership player Joel Corey will be promoted from development coach to Fremantle’s midfield coach to replace Carr.
Carr, a premiership player with the Power in 2004, also played 83 games for the Dockers in a 207-game career.
He is remembered by Fremantle fans for his feisty presence in western derbies and won the Glendinning Medal as best in ground during a powder-keg 2007 encounter with West Coast at Subiaco Oval.
