Two-time premiership player David King says there’s “no way” Jordan De Goey should sign his new deal with Collingwood, amid issues with the “arbitrary” behavioural clauses.

De Goey baulked at the Magpies’ five-year deal on Monday as he refused to sign a new contract until there was further clarification around the behavioural clauses proposed.

Because King says the contract comes down to trust – and if Collingwood don’t trust him, they shouldn’t sign him.

But “No way Jordan De Goey should sign that contract,” he tweeted.

“It should never be permissible by the AFLPA, regardless of history.

So “Don’t trust him, don’t sign him.”

SEN’s Sam Edmund had reported the behavioural clause could allow the club to terminate the deal “whenever they think necessary”.

“From what I have been told, the catch-all clause in the Collingwood contract for Jordan De Goey reads along the lines of Collingwood being able to stand down Jordan De Goey and terminate his contract whenever they think necessary,” he reported on Trade Radio.

“That is the ultimate catch-all clause.

Controversial Collingwood star Jordan De Goey has been given personal leave by the AFL club, with no time frame set on his return.

It comes a day after he was hit with a $25,000 suspended fine and he apologised for his “disrespectful” conduct while partying in Bali.

“Collingwood advise player Jordan De Goey has been granted personal leave by the club and will not take part in the round 15 match against GWS,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday evening about Sunday’s game.

“Jordan has been absent from training this week and the club will continue to support him on his return to the football program.”

Footage emerged on social media last week of De Goey, who was given permission by the club to travel to Bali on his mid-season break, making lewd gestures while at a nightclub.

De Goey will also “undertake further behavioural education” in addition to an existing counselling program. He avoided any suspension from playing duties.

Collingwood has also put contract talks with the 26-year-old – who is entering free agency – on hold until the season’s end.

He received a Rising Star nomination in round 20 after collecting 18 disposals, 12 tackles and kicking a goal in a 21-point defeat against Sydney at the Sydney Cricket Ground. So De Goey had a break out 2018 season, raising comparisons with Dustin Martin.

During the season, De Goey re-signed with Collingwood for another two years, turning down multi-year, multi-million contract offers from North Melbourne and St Kilda.

Jordan de goey Video

Jordan De Goey’s behaviour in Bali screams of an “entitled” individual who has chosen “indulgence over discipline”, according to three AFL greats.

De Goey has yet again courted controversy for his off-field actions, this time via a widely-circulated video on social media that shows him making crude tongue gestures to a camera and mimicking a sexual act at a nightclub in Bali, where he has travelled during Collingwood’s mid-season bye.

And Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph told Fox Footy on Friday night that Collingwood privately concedes “this is a really poor look for Jordan De Goey video”.

Brisbane Lions champion Jonathan Brown said that while going overseas wasn’t necessarily an issue, De Goey had failed to show a basic level of common sense.

“I think in this situation with his history, the common sense would be to stay out of the public spotlight,” he said.

So “It’s probably best to travel domestically or, if you’re overseas, make sure you’re off social media, stay out of the limelight.

“That’s the level of commonsense I would be expecting.”

But Former St Kilda spearhead Nick Riewoldt said De Goey’s actions were, from a “pure football” standpoint, an indication he wasn’t committed to maximising his talents as a player.

“I think you always get a pretty good indication of someone‘s professionalism and how much they care about their careers when you look at the choices they make,” he said.
