As a youth, Quick played in the 2000 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Rangers minor ice hockey team.

He later played for the Mid Fairfield youth hockey association out of Darien Ice Rink. He carried his team to win a national championship and he was single time during his midget major year.

His team also featured forwards Sean Backman, John Mori and Augie DiMarzo, Joey Sides, Joe DeBello, Chris Davis, Cam Atkinson who all went on to play professional hockey.

Quick played at Hamden High School in Hamden, Connecticut, before transferring to Avon Old Farms, where he was named to the 2002 New Haven Register All-Area Ice Hockey Team.

Jonathan Quick was in between the pipes when the Los Angeles Kings won their first two Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014, but his time on the West Coast appeared to be over Tuesday night.

The Kings agreed to trade Quick to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Joonas Korpisalo and Vladislav Gavrikov, according to multiple reports. Both teams have yet to officially announce the trade with the NHL’s deadline on Friday.

Quick was reportedly unhappy with the trade as Los Angeles defeated the Winnipeg Jets 6-5.

The Kings selected Quick with the No. 72 overall pick in 2005 after he guided UMass to the program’s first-ever NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship appearance.

A few years later, he took over the starting job from Jonathan Bernier and in 2012 he was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.

Quick was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy voted as most valuable player of the playoffs in 2012. He has also won the William M. Jennings Trophy, which is awarded to the goaltenders who played for the team that allowed the fewest goals, twice (2013-14, 2017-18).

Whether or not Quick plays for the Blue Jackets remains to be seen.
