Over the past three years starting with 2019-20, John Wall has been limited to just 40 games because of injuries & his standoff with Rockets.

A Raleigh, North Carolina native, Wall was chosen with the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards after playing one year of college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Wall, who plays the point guard position, was a five-time NBA All-Star from 2014 to 2018 and was named to the All-NBA Team in 2017.
However, he experienced multiple injuries in 2019 and missed more than two years of basketball before being traded to the Houston Rockets in December 2020.

Wall was the top recruit and best player on Calipari’s first Kentucky team. He was also the first overall pick in the NBA draft by the Washington Wizards after just one season with the Wildcats.
His career was off to a fantastic start, playing at least 66 games in six of his first seven seasons. Wall was named an all star in four of those seasons and received several other accolades as a Wizard.
But then the injuries came and they stayed longer than anyone could have expected. Wall has played three of the last five seasons and even in those three seasons he’s only played in 113 of a possible 246 games.
The former Wildcat was traded to Houston in a deal for Russell Westbrook, with his days as a Wizard coming to an end.
He didn’t spend much time in Houston before he received a buyout from the team. Wall then was able to hit the free agent market where he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Contract
John Wall signed a 2 year / $13,281,950 contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, including $6,479,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $6,640,975.

In 2022-23, Wall will earn a base salary of $6,479,000, while carrying a cap hit of $6,479,000 and a dead cap value of $6,479,000.
Wall will receive roughly $41 million from Houston, according to the other person who spoke with AP. Wall was scheduled to make $47.4 million this coming season, his last in what was a four-year contract.
Yahoo first reported that Wall and the Rockets came to the buyout decision. ESPN first reported that Wall intends to join the Clippers, presumably for the taxpayer mid-level exception of about $6.4 million — basically the same amount he’s giving back to the Rockets to become a free agent.
Stats
Because Wall was a fifth-year high school senior in 2009 and would turn 19 by the end of the year, some sources argued that he would be eligible for the 2009 NBA draft.

On December 2, 2020, Wall, along with a 2023 lottery-protected first-round pick, were traded to the Houston Rockets for Russell Westbrook.
On March 22, 2021, Wall logged his eighth career triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 117–99 win over the Toronto Raptors, ending the team’s 20-game losing streak.
It was his first triple-double since 2016. On April 26, Wall was ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a grade 2 hamstring strain.
In 2021–22, Wall and the Rockets reached a mutual decision for him not to play, as the team was rebuilding and developing young guards Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green. On June 28, 2022, Wall and the Rockets reached a contract buyout agreement.
On July 8, 2022, Wall signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Wall made his Clippers debut on October 3, putting up five points, one rebound, and three assists in a 102–97 preseason win over the Trail Blazers.
Did retire
Earlier in the season, Wall hinted at one day returning to college to complete his college degree. It was later confirmed by the Washington Post, that he would spend this summer at Kentucky taking business classes.
However, after hearing from the media and inside the locker room that the Wizards are better without Wall, and due to his unselfish nature, he has decided to retire from basketball and return to school full-time next season.
He has always put the Wizards first, and would do anything to make the team become a championship contender.
If that means his absence would accomplish that goal, than for the good of the Wizards, he will step away from the game of basketball.
At first Wall didn’t pay any attention to reports of how the team was winning without him. He believed that they were just doing their job and stepping up when a man goes down. Similar to what happened in Boston.
When Colin Cowherd and others continued to beat the drum that the Wall-less Wizards are a much better team, everyone knew that those weren’t credible sources.
Since the only thing real about Cowherd was his hair color.
